REFLECTIONS IN A MIRACLE

By Susan Penn-Berkeley Brooks

As I laze here, peacefully,
By a cool running stream.
With time to myself, to think,
And to daydream.

I gaze all round me,
And such wonders I see.
The miracle of life,
Dreaming of what I could be.

I want to be a ray of sun,
Flickering through the trees.
I want to be dry Autumn leaves,
Rustling in the breeze.

I want to be a glowing sunset,
As far as far can be.
I want to be a weeping willow,
Tickling water passing me.

I want to be a shower of rain,
Splashing rings upon the stream.
I want to be fresh fallen snow,
On which the moonlight gleams.

I want to be a beautiful flower,
With colours oh so bright.
I want to be the shining star,
Twinkling all through the night.

I want to be a graceful bird,
Soaring high in the blue sky.
I want to be remembered,
If this moment, I should die.

I shouldn't want to leave you,
Bewildered, asking why.
I shouldn't want to leave you,
To mourn for me and cry.

Cont'd next column...

I will be gone forever,
Returned unto the ground.
I will be the silence,
Where there isn't any sound.

I will be there whenever,
You remember me.
I will be that blooming bud,
Upon the willow tree.

I will be the babbling water,
Over stones in the brook.
I will be the colours of the rainbow,
Worth that second look.

I will be the glistening dew,
Upon the grass at dawn.
I will be the wild buttercup,
In the middle of the lawn.

I will be a snowflake,
That flutters on and on.
I will be the bird,
Bursting into tuneful song.

I will be the sunshine,
That warms up the earth.
I will be present,
At the joy of every birth.

As I laze here, peacefully,
By the cool running stream.
With time to myself, to think,
And to daydream.

I gaze at my life,
And such wonders I've seen,
The miracle of life,
Mourn not, for I have been.
